Softball hungry for wins

Caps softball is back for the 2015 season and they are ready to rumble. This year Broughton is lead by captains English Dean, Abby Bugger, Kelsie Schmidt and Tequilla Cuervo  and first year coach Monique Fearrington.

“Our goal is to improve and get better from the beginning of the season to the end,” said Senior pitcher English Dean.

This year, like others, has brought adversity to the program as snow days and other unfavored weather conditions have limited field time and team development.  Another factor that has impacted this years team is the fact that softball does not have a JV team.  This means the team is young compared to the rest of the conference with several underclassmen having to step up and play against more experienced players.

“We’ve moved pretty fast with girls learning basic fundamentals, and they’re doing pretty well,” said Dean

Another  challenge for any sports team of any level is the struggle of a new coach.  A new coach brings new strategies and more work to achieving that perfect chemistry that every team longs for.

Although this year has been full of adversity thus far, the team continues to excel up to this point only losing one conference game.   Captains specifically have stepped up and are playing well and getting better at the same time.  One of the biggest games of the season for the caps will be against Wake Forest, the other softball juggernaut of the Cap-8.  The team is ready for the test and will do anything to succeed this season.

Come out and support your Caps Softball team as they strive to win the conference championship.
