Brain Game team dominates competition

The Brain Game team has been on a roll and will play in the final competition on WRAL on March 14.

Team members Cate Rivers, Giuseppe Guarino and Anvita Panajkar won a play- off competition, defeting Panther Creek and the North Carolina School of Science and Math of Durham.

This has propelled the team into the final six in the WRAL playoff.

The questions asked in the competition hosted by Mark Roberts included math, science, arts, and current event questions. Because that this is a high school event, the show has a hyped up, spirited twist that viewers love. WRAL compares the event with a high school pep rally.

Kevin Shand is the mastermind behind WRAL’s brain games. In the mid 1990s Shand saw that there was a need for a televised competition of something other than the often publicized high school athletics.

Shand wanted to highlight the efforts of student scholars.
