Men’s Basketball Tips off Tournament

The Men’s basketball team walked out of Holliday Gym Saturday beating the Southern Alamance Patriots sixty seven to thirty eight after a week long delay in pay due to snow to advance in the NCHSAA 4-A Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Caps got off to slow start missing several shots in a row, but went on a fast-paced run to but open the lead to twice the Patriots score, eighteen to nine.  Senior Jerome Robinson’s sixteen points in the first half gave him and his teammates a large lead going into the locker room, up thirty seven to sixteen.

The second half was never close as the caps responded to every Southern Alamance rally with an explosive play, turning a blowout into a show for those that decided to come out.

Robinson led the team with 18 total points. Seniors Roy McMillan and Austin Burnette added nine and eight points, respectively.

“My guys played really well out there today, they did just what was needed and now we get to keep our season going,” said head coach Jeff Ferrell.

“Our most effective tool today was our ability to play smart and limit turnovers and fouls.”  The Caps had only three turnovers the entire contest and no player for Broughton had more than two fouls.

The Caps will take on the next round of the tournament a home on Tuesday at the conclusion of the girls game.
