Trey Cheek Memorial Contest

The Trey Cheek Memorial writing contest is for Broughton seniors who can write and submit a short story of any genre for a chance to win $1500.

This contest was created in memoriam of 1990 Broughton alumnus, Trey Cheek. Cheek was a dedicated athlete who played baseball and was inducted into the Broughton Hall of Fame.  Right out of high school, Cheek was drafted by the New York Mets and he continued to play baseball at UNC-Wilmington.

In addition, he had a hobby of creative writing and eventually published a novel The Limits of Town. This contest was created to honor Cheek and his legacy of writing.

Cheek’s son, freshman Jackson Cheek is also beginning his first year at Broughton.
