Update for Class of 2018

With one quarter under their belts, seniors have only three more until graduation. There’s still plenty to do, with lots of senior events and college deadlines quickly approaching.

The senior breakfast will take place on Tuesday, November 14 at 9 a.m. in the Holliday Gym. Students should plan to miss part of second period, an A day, for the breakfast. Senior T-shirts will be distributed at this time. The senior slideshow, featuring pictures sent in of the class of 2018 during their time at Broughton, will also play. Immediately afterwards, the senior class picture will be taken. The costs for these events were covered in the senior dues.

For seniors applying to college, North Carolina Application Week is coming up. During the week of November 13-17, high schools across the state will participate in the event. For these five days, many state schools waive their application fee so that seniors can apply without the typical $50-$90 fee.

Most schools also accept College Board and ACT waivers, which allow seniors with an eligible income to apply to up to four colleges with a waived application fee. Broughton is participating, and seniors will be able to receive application help in the media center during this week.

Students should sign up in room 1209, the guidance room, by Monday, November 13. A complete list of North Carolina colleges that participate in the waived application fee and/or College Board or ACT waivers can be located here.

The date of graduation has also been set. Broughton will continue in its traditional Friday afternoon graduation in Holliday Gym. The class of 2018 commencement will take place on June 8, 2018 at 2 p.m.
